  As the school clocks 70, the Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure Alumni Association has expressed support for key stakeholders to take over the runnings of the school from the Ondo state government.   The Ondo state government has endorsed plans by Anglican Church to take over famous Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure and Fiwasaye Girls’ Grammar school, on  Monday 17th October, 2022 reported the efforts being made by the Anglican Church in Ondo state to take over the schools as confirmed by Most Reverend Simeon Borokini, the Anglican Bishop of Akure Diocese and Archbishop of Ondo  Ecclesiastical province. Ondo State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has confirmed the arrest of the terrorists who attackd St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, killing scores of worshipers. The governor spoke on Tuesday shortly after the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor, announced the arrest in Abuja. Governor Akeredolu further disclosed that the owner of the house where the attackers stayed before the June 5 attack in Owo has also been arrested. He said: “Now that the military has announced it, I can tell you that five of them have been arrested now. They are still on the trail of the rest.  Temenu Boluwaji, an officer of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has been killed by gunmen in an attack on Okuta Elerinla police station in Akure, Ondo state. The gunmen invaded the police station in the early hours of Monday. Odunlami Funmilayo, the police spokesperson, confirmed the development in a statement, saying the deceased was hit by a stray bullet during a shootout with the gunmen.   A student of the   Federal University of Technology   (FUTA), Akure, Ondo State, who identified himself as Saamu Eleja, has narrated how officers of the Nigerian Army attacked him and other students during a protest over the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike. Eleja told us that the officers arrived very early at Roadblock, the venue of the protest in Akure, on Tuesday and shot sporadically to disrupt the gathering. “We started a peaceful protest yesterday and made sure to inform the appropriate quarters" “The one we had yesterday was peaceful and nothing was damaged. But today, these officers came to disrupt the protest and shot sporadically. Every one present had to run for cover. There are bullet cases scattered on the ground.”

  Students across three Universities in Ondo state have blocked the Ilesha/ Akure highway, Ondo state, in protest over prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the country. The students are from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko and Olusegun Agagu University of Technology, Okitipupa. They barricaded the highway to show their displeasure over their continued stay at home due to strike actionThey chanting different solidarity songs and displayed placards with various inscriptions such as— “End ASUU Strike”, “Save our future”. Many motorists and travellers were stranded for hours on the highway.

  The Ondo state government has disclosed plans to recruit additional teachers in its public schools to fill the gap of shortage of teachers being experienced in the sector. The permanent secretary in the ministry of education and science technology, Mrs Lola Amuda disclosed this at a forum in Akure, the state capital. The state government had last year employed 1,000 teachers under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) but the sector is still being faced with the inadequate teachers to take relevant subjects in secondary schools across the state. The affected buildings were the popular Arowolo Bookshop, NAO Supermarkets, Olukayode building, which are all situated on Oba Adesida road. Others include Rainbow Furniture at Bye-pass junction, and Salon Mega store along Isikan/Cathedral axis of the state capital. The five buildings were said to have been sealed off by the Ondo State Waste Management Authority, ODSWMA, due to what was described as their unsanitary and unhygienic practices. Tragedy has struck in the early hours of today, Monday, following the sudden death of the lawmaker representing Akure South/Akure North Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon Adedayo Omolafe. DAILY POST gathered that the House of Representatives member, popularly called Expensive, died around 2 am on Monday.
