JEGEDE VS AKEREDOLU: TRIBUNAL TO DELIVER JUDGEMENT IN APRIL

 The Ondo State election petition tribunal has fixed April 2021 for judgement.


Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Umar Abubakar gave the ruling after counsel to parties adopted their written addresses.


This  followed  multiple hearings on the petition filed  by the Peoples Democratic Party and it's candidate, Eyitayo Jegede challenging the victory of governor Oluwarotimi in the October 2020 election.


Adopting his final brief of arguement, Counsel to the petitioner, Onyechi Ikpeazu accused defence counsel of trying to trivialliase constitutional matter.


 He insisted that Akeredolu and his Deputy, lucky aiyedatiwa were not validly nominated to contest in the poll.


However in his final address, counsel to INEC, Charles Edosomwan faulted the claim of the petitioner that akeredolu and aiyedatiwa were not lawfully sponsored by the APC


He therefore prayed the tribunal to dismiss the petition for lacking in merit.

Child right act: We have established family court ―Ondo chief judge

THE new Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olutoyin Akeredolu, has announced the introduction of Family Court in the State to ensure accelerated hearing on cases relating to violence against women and children. Akeredolu who stated this during her inauguration as the 11th Chief Judge of the State, said the Family Court with its specialised jurisdiction in child rights and family matters, with a full complement of the registry, is now fully operational in the state. She said “Counsel and litigants are at liberty to file processes at the said registry as the case may be “For the sake of the uninformed, the court is set up pursuant to Part XIII ( Section 149- 162) of Ondo State Child Right Law of 2007 for the purpose of hearing and determining matters relating to children. Ondo Amotekun Arrests Four-Man Kidnap Syndicate In Akure

  Officials of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun have arrested a four-man kidnap syndicate in Akure, the state capital. The commander of Amotekun in the state, Adetunji Adeleye, while parading the suspects said they were apprehended after kidnapping three persons along Oda road in Akure during a night operation while it was raining. According to Adeleye, the suspects initially kidnapped four persons, but one person was able to escape while they took the rest of them to their hideout. He said after getting wind of the incident, Amotekun operatives swung into action and rescued two persons that night, and subsequently arrested the suspects during negotiations for ransom. Adeleye disclosed that a gun, cutlass, dagger, and a motorcycle were recovered from the suspects and assured the law-abiding residents of the state of adequate security of their lives and property.
