  Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, AAUA, has been shut down indefinitely. The indefinite closure of the school was coming about 24 hours after an accident caused by a truck belonging to Dangote Group claimed the lives of some students of the institution. 12 persons were feared killed when a Dangote truck loaded with bags of cement crushed passersby, students and traders before ramming into shops opposite the university after it suffered break failure in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government area of Ondo State. It was gathered that the move by the institution to shut down the school was due to the rising tension among students as well as indigenes of the community over the allegation that the government has failed to find lasting solutions to the incessant road crashes which had claimed lots of lives in the community.  The Ondo State Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Akure, Ondo state has granted a motion exparte for substituted service on Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in the petition filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Eyitayo Jegede. Jegede in the petition is challenging the victory of Akeredolu on four grounds. The grounds include that the election was marred by irregularities and pockets of violence as well as intimidation and faulty emergence of Akeredolu at the APC primaries. Counsel for Jegede, Jamiu Makinde had in the motion exparte sought an order to serve the defendants through substituted service by pasting on the petition on the notice board of the tribunal.  Members of the Ondo State Artisans Group (OSAG) have called on the state Deputy Governor and flagbearer of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Hon Agboola Ajayi, to come to their rescue and save their means of livelihood that has suffered economic downturn since the emergence of the present government in the state. The group, at an interactive session with former Governor Olusegun Mimiko, in Akure, on Tuesday, said since Mimiko left office in 2017, artisans in the state have been neglected by the state government as they no longer get government patronage crucial to boosting the local economy of the state. President General of OSAG, Comrade Daisi Akomolafe, appealed to the ZLP and its candidate to "come to the rescue of artisans in the state and provide the needed direction".  Ondo State Deputy Governor and the governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has said his government will reduce the tuition fees of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) to N50,000 when elected governor of the state. Ajayi gave the promise at the campaign flagoff of the ZLP in Ore, on Saturday. AAUA students currently pay between N150,000 to N180,000 as tuition fee. The fee was increased from N30,000 by the present APC government.

  The Federal Government says state governments and school administrators should start making preparations for the full reopening of schools in the country. The  schools were early shut in March as part of measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease. However, the FG announced the resumption of graduating pupils effective August 4, 2020, to write this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination from August 17, 2020, through September 12, 2020.
