In Akure, Soldiers Attack FUTA Students Protesting ASUU Strike

  A student of the   Federal University of Technology   (FUTA), Akure, Ondo State, who identified himself as Saamu Eleja, has narrated how officers of the Nigerian Army attacked him and other students during a protest over the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike. Eleja told us that the officers arrived very early at Roadblock, the venue of the protest in Akure, on Tuesday and shot sporadically to disrupt the gathering. “We started a peaceful protest yesterday and made sure to inform the appropriate quarters" “The one we had yesterday was peaceful and nothing was damaged. But today, these officers came to disrupt the protest and shot sporadically. Every one present had to run for cover. There are bullet cases scattered on the ground.”

Ondo varsity students in joint protest over prolonged ASUU strike

  Students across three Universities in Ondo state have blocked the Ilesha/ Akure highway, Ondo state, in protest over prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the country. The students are from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko and Olusegun Agagu University of Technology, Okitipupa. They barricaded the highway to show their displeasure over their continued stay at home due to strike actionThey chanting different solidarity songs and displayed placards with various inscriptions such as— “End ASUU Strike”, “Save our future”. Many motorists and travellers were stranded for hours on the highway.
